Lakes Area Nextdoor | Summer Edition

Summer in the Lakes Area has its own rhythm—part loon calls, part outboard engine revs, and part lawn chair diplomacy. And if you’ve ever scrolled your neighborhood feed during cabin season, you know exactly what we mean. We rounded up a few totally made up (but also not that far off) posts you might just find this time of year on a Lakes Area Nextdoor thread...

  • “Did you see the loons are back? Just saw a couple on Nisswa Lake. Gave 'em a respectful wave.”

  • “Guy landed a monster largemouth on Gull. Still not as big as the one I almost caught.”

  • “Anyone else seen the big buck wandering Lower Roy Lake Rd? Thought it was a statue… until it blinked.”

  • “OK who’s revving their old Johnson outboard at 6am? Not mad, just jealous. Mine hasn’t run since ’08.”

  • “Garage sale Saturday: one tackle box (75% tangled), two coolers (50% still smell like nightcrawlers), and a VHS copy of Grumpy Old Men.”

  • “JULY 4TH: Did anyone else hear that loud boom? Or was that just Dave lighting off his homemade fireworks again?”

  • “Free cooler by the road. Smells a little like bait. First come, first serve.”

  • “Found: Koozie floating near the public access. If it’s yours, describe what beer was in it.”

  • “Chipmunk reported stealing birdseed. Escaped on foot. Again.”

  • “Who left a flamingo floatie on Pelican Lake last night? It’s currently docked at our place and seems to be enjoying retirement.”

  • “To whoever was blasting ‘Danger Zone’ while pulling into the public launch… that was awesome. Respect.”

  • “Kayak for sale: kind of floats. Comes with a paddle and a story.”

This is all in good fun—but let’s be real, if you’re Up North long enough… you’ve probably posted (or lived) at least one of these. Stay safe, keep laughing, and enjoy every wild, wonderful, slightly fishy-smelling moment of Lakes Area summer.
