The Nisswa Turtle Races, known as the "Home of the Turtle Races," have been a beloved summer tradition in the Nisswa and Brainerd Minnesota Lakes Area for 61 years, since 1963. This exciting event brings together locals and visitors of all ages every Wednesday from early June to mid-August for a day filled with fun and friendly competition.
Location and Schedule: The races take place at the Official Nisswa Turtle Track, located behind the Nisswa Chamber of Commerce building. Free parking is available for all attendees. The races start on June 5th and run until August 14th, with the first race kicking off at 2:00 pm. Registration begins at 1:00 pm, so be sure to arrive early to secure your spot!

How it Works: Participants can join the races for just $5.00 per racer, which includes an official racing button and the use of a turtle. Please note that bringing your own turtle is not allowed due to the rules. On race day, the staff wets the race track to get it ready for the turtles. Once your number is called, head to the inner race circle with your turtle. Release your turtle and cheer it on as it races towards the finish line. The staff members will blow their whistle once a turtle crosses the finish line.

Fun for Everyone: Be prepared to spend a couple of hours at the races, as there can be multiple heats and many racers. It's a fantastic way to spend an afternoon with family and friends. If it's a beautiful day, the races and town can get busy, but don't worry – there are plenty of places to grab a coffee, snack, or even a meal. Make sure to bring your enthusiasm and competitive spirit for an unforgettable experience!
